Selling Covid antivirals over the counter a recipe for disaster

Friday, 12 August saw a number of major developments across Australia in areas ranging from energy to education and law enforcement.

One of the most significant developments of the day was the historic decision made by federal and state ministers to consider the environment as part of the National Electricity Objective following a meeting on the energy crisis. In addition, the energy regulator will be given expanded powers.

However, there was also troubling news in the form of a landmark review into the culture at Macquarie Street, which found that more than a third of respondents to a survey of workers in the New South Wales parliament had been bullied or sexually harassed over the past five years. The Greens have described the report as evidence of a “toxic boys’ club” extending beyond Canberra’s politics.
